Is in "auto". The other options are:
- ESD
- Arts
- "run command"
- "console beep"

I think my system is using ALSA, but I don't know now how to see that.

Any help more?

Gaim lets you pick the sound system that it'll use, the "sound method"
option in the preferences.  Have you tried the alternatives?
