SOLVED Re: many programs: Unable to load any usable ISO8859 font

Trying "service xfs restart" for the nth time, the system slowed to a 
crawl for some reason. After 10 minutes of thrashing, hard-rebooted it, 
and now all seems to be well in terms of fonts and things. <shrug>
