This seems to indicate that "localhost" is missing from your /etc/hosts
file.  Check that and try the normal "ntpq -p".

cat /etc/hosts
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1       localhost.localdomain   loacalhost      box1
10.1.1.2        box2    box2
10.1.1.3        box3    box3
10.1.1.4        box4    box4
10.1.1.1        box1    127.0.0.1
192.168.1.226   box1    127.0.0.1

192.168.1.226 is the "wireless" ethernet bridge I use to access the router downstairs.
