Well, you have to mount it sometime, and if you've put a

Not so. Normally, when I put a CDROM in my drive,
I want to *write* it, not *read* it. And for that I need
it unmounted. I find auto-mount a real nuisance.

I rarely use my CDROM drive for anything but making a
backup. I don't have any commercial CDROMs at all,
and it's pretty rare that I need to read one of my
backups.

real gripe with the idea is that the eject button on the
machine won't work for mounted drives.

This has nothing to do with auto-mount, though it is also
a pain in the lower anatomy.

I can explain it for you, but I can't understand it for you.
I speak only for myself, and I am unanimous in that!
