Sounds reasonable; you should be able to reproduce easily with the E3000.

What do you need from me to help with that? I can send you an IO board with
one or more QLogic ISP1000's on it, or just the ISP1000, if you have a D1000
shelf (or equivalent HVD SCSI enclosure) to run it. Or I can send you info from
this E6500; after all, every boot of the box goes through an rdshell session at
this point.

I have a few other SBUS cards if you want to try them; an SBUS gigabit ethernet,
a number of SBUS JNI FC64 fibre-channel cards (not likely to work at all, though),
among others.....

And, well, after adding an /etc/event.d/ttyS0 file with the right contents, I now
have a getty on the console. Now to get networking.....got it, just needed to
do the following:
[root@spacely ~]# ifconfig
lo Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0

          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)

[root@spacely ~]# modprobe sunhme
[root@spacely ~]# ifup eth0
[root@spacely ~]# ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 08:00:20:XX:CA:05

          RX bytes:218 (218.0 b) TX bytes:4666 (4.5 KiB)
          Interrupt:19

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1

          RX bytes:100 (100.0 b) TX bytes:100 (100.0 b)

[root@spacely ~]#
So now I can ssh in with -Y and get gui stuff.. Console log of the
successful boot, which also shows the manual intervention at the rdshell
dracut prompt:
