I wasn't going to suggest it outright. ;) :-) One big deskside tower is all I can say.... and it does need a pretty substantial UPS. If I were more confident in the condition of my two E3500's I'd test there, or on the E5500, which I've cannibalized of several parts (including the power sequencer; I'm using one from an E6000 along with the one from the E5500 as PDU's from our Symmetras' L6-30 plugs to our Cisco 7609 and 12012 router's lower current 208VAC requirements... those PDU's being rack mounted and all, they work great). So the E6500 is in the best shape of any of my larger Sun boxen, and is something I'd like to have running for a Squid/Pound reverse proxy to our Plone site for heavy traffic. As well as a PostgreSQL server with great throughput in its own right (I've benchmarked the E6500 with PostgreSQL, and it is a concurrent connection beast, at least with Aurora 2.0). Not a fast desktop system, though. (and that would be one heavy-duty desk is all I can say....).... In any case, it's installing right now. I'd rather do some RAID for things, since I have two D1000 shelves full of drives, and four DiffSCSI channels to feed them, but a single drive will work ok for now. Just have to do some work later. But, looking at the dmesg right now reminds me of something: is it really necessary to have so much swap? (the autopartitioner gave me 17GB of swap.....) it's not like this box has a suspend mode or anything.... :-) _______________________________________________ sparc mailing list sparc@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/sparc
