If it is popular enough, it is already to late, imho, because then a lot people already suffered the pain to edit the long list in the wiki. Currently it takes around 30 seconds to save a edited page and with a lot of people wanting to add their packages soon after the annoncement, there may also be a lot of conflicts, like there is already.
You may be right. However, I think that it would be better to have fever directory in cvs with everybody permitted to edit this (like owners some time ago).
