This may or may not be a sensible approach, but it has no bearing on this situation) - hassle for other repos which either all have to fall into line (=change all their stuff too) or risk being confusing (see above re: flamewars) - hassle for anyone that has personal scripts that do stuff, and have .fcX hardcoded in them. (I do, and I bet there are thousands out there) - possible hassle for any other third party systems (RPM search sites maybe?) that may use the presence of an "fc" disttag in their processing somehow. - hassle when people forget the change and do typos. e.g. a CVS admin creating FC-8 instead of FP-8 for example. (OK, maybe that's scripted in the Fedora dist system, but I'm willing to bet that if the disttag changes, someone, somewhere will cause grief by forgetting the change) Whilst it's hardly earth-shattering, and we'll all live with it, it just seems a bit pointless - like change for change's sake. Someone's come up with a plausible and meaningful revised term that still uses "FC" so given that, surely everyone's time would be better spent on technical stuff rather than changing the letter "C" to "P" (or whatever) in various places?
