And for what? What are the technical advantages that will be obtained with this change? If we knew what effect wants to be obtained we could perhaps think together in a better way to solve it.

Consistency, cleanliness, and organization.

All subjectibve concepts.

As it should be clear from this thread, several of us consider the current approach the one thagt provide "Consistency, cleanliness, and organization".

So, as I suspected, no technical reasons.

If we permit this off the wall naming scheme which violates the Fedora
Naming Guidelines for the Java packages, we open the door for every
other possible group to abuse the namespace.

That was not created taking into account the situation and needs of the Java stack.

Discussions for finding out what is appropriate and necessary ammendments would have to be made before attempting to apply it.

Using the current one as a "one-size-fits-all" tool for things that clearly have a special situation is abuse.

I'm willing to put this in front of the Fedora Packaging Committee for a
vote, but I fully intend to vote against it.

Before voting, more thought has to be put into it. The middle of a release was a very bad time for that BTW. And I think multi-distro practices should be taken into account as well as more respect for te community that created this system of Java packaging. I see none.
