Hello everyone! My history with linux/Fedora in brief: I dabbled with RH while in college setting up a beowulf cluster and using plain rpm was NOT a very good experience. I actually loved BeOS while is was still being developed but, alas, it wasn't meant to Be. :) After that I went back to windows for several years until I got tired of fighting windows related issues and begun to get re-interesting in *nix. Having used RH in college I decided to give Fedora a try (I can't remember if it was FC 10 or 12?). It was a few years later I finally decided to join the Packagers group (~2008?) and am actually one of the few that became a packager on RPM Fusion first as I was interested in the OpenCOLLADA project and at the time it wasn't considered fully FOSS. I believe my first package on Fedora was OpenImageIO. I don't really use it but I thought it would be neat to have software that's the same as what's used in the industry and it was needed for the Blender Cycles rendering engine. I later added OpenColorIO as well. Some time later I became a proven packager and while I'm still not a programmer (c/c++ or otherwise), I have learned a ton over the years and can usually at least hack fixes for simple code issues or build systems. I prefer CMake though over autotools. I also became an Amateur Radio operator in 2012 and became interested in digital communications. I now maintain a good bit of the ham radio related applications for Fedora. Now on to the article... I've never written one before so any tips are welcomed. Implementing fail2ban and Banning Worst Offenders by Country in Firewalld My basic outline: - Installing and setting up fail2ban, specifically for sshd - Methods to monitor the fail2ban log or get the sshd jail status from fail2ban-client - How to block IPs by country of the "worst offenders". - Will include a script to largely automate the process, systemd service file and timer as well so updates to network addresses are picked up on a regular basis.
