but it's not pretty and possibly not the best solution.  You might
want to try Riot.im which allows you to have presence via a web page,
thus probably not blocked.  Lots of people here are probably smarter
than I about this stuff.

Beautiful.  I'm super confident about delivery for #3 and this sounds
fine to me, fwiw.
