Never mind, I found that somehow nscd had been restarted on ths machine, kiling it and doing another 'chkconfig nscd off' fixed it. I point the dns address on this box to the firewall, which in turn forwards things to vz's servers. When I didn't even see the lights blink on the switch as I tapped the retry button in firefox, I knew then it was my problem. Sorry for the noise. -- Cheers, Gene People having trouble with vz bouncing email to me should add the word 'online' between the 'verizon', and the dot which bypasses vz's stupid bounce rules.
