I've done somthing similar for Red Hat 9. However, rather than backport
the SATA support into the older kernel, I just replaced the kernel with
the latest version (2.4.31). Then, you have to modify the hwdata RPM to
recognize the SATA controllers and rebuild the anaconda installer if you
want it to be installable on SATA hardware at installation time.
