I'd recommend upgrading to FC3 rather than just upgrading the kernel.
Do you have a reason to stay with RH9?

It's doable and there is a noticeable change in how the system feels, but
you're right in that there are a considerable number of (little) things. E.g.,
modification of some rc scripts, newer modutils, misc other changes.
