I built the packages from the above source for Red Hat 9 from
updates-testing, installed them on a test machine, wrote a sample PHP
script with mail(). Ran the script, received mail, and verified
function worked.
Then, I removed all the packages from my test and downloaded the files
from updates-testing and installed those. I ran my sample script and
saw a difference:
Warning: mail() is not supported in this PHP build
Is a dependency missing?
Yes it is the bug I mailed about I will try to find out how to
make it build ok...

I have a major problem with the package php-4.2.2-17.5.legacy.i386. It
doesn't support the mail() function anymore? Am I doing something wrong, and
if so, what can I do to fix it?
I get an error like this:
Warning: mail() is not supported in this PHP build
Hope to hear soon about this matter.

This is a bug in php that it dose not find sendmail during configure,
I had the same problem now I can't find the instructions how I fixed it.
Try to search on the net it is fixed in later versions of php, I think
from 4.3.5 or someting..
