I have done live upgrades from 7.1 to 7.3 using apt-get and a little rpm 
--nodeps --force. It's a bit scary from that perspective, but a general 
upgrade should be much less heart-wrenching. :)

rh 6.2 to 9 ... now _that_ was gut-wrenching ...
