Hi, I just followed through the yum and 8.0 instructions http://www.fedoralegacy.org/docs/yum-rh8.php and noticed a few things 1/ Might be worth mentioning use of proxies with rpm for people like me who have to use a proxy i.e. rpm -httpproxy yourproxy.host.name -httpport yourproxyport -Uvh .... 2/ Worth pointing people at their local mirrors e.g. in the UK rpm -httpproxy wwwcache.gla.ac.uk -httpport 8080 -Uvh \ http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/download.fedoralegacy.org/legacy/redhat/8.0/legacy-utils/i386/rpm-4.1.1-1.8x.i386.rpm \ http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/download.fedoralegacy.org/legacy/redhat/8.0/legacy-utils/i386/rpm-build-4.1.1-1.8x.i386.rpm \ http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/download.fedoralegacy.org/legacy/redhat/8.0/legacy-utils/i386/rpm-devel-4.1.1-1.8x.i386.rpm \ http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/download.fedoralegacy.org/legacy/redhat/8.0/legacy-utils/i386/rpm-python-4.1.1-1.8x.i386.rpm \ http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/download.fedoralegacy.org/legacy/redhat/8.0/legacy-utils/i386/popt-1.7.1-1.8x.i386.rpm \ http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/download.fedoralegacy.org/legacy/redhat/8.0/updates/i386/gnupg-1.0.7-14.i386.rpm BUT for me rpm would only work on the first package in the list with these long URLs and so I had to download them all with wget (or curl, or web browser) and then everything was OK 3/ I already had python-2.2.1-17 and the python-1.5.2-43.72.i386.rpm doesn't seem to be in the 8.0 tree. 4/ Yum configuration info conflicts with http://fedoralegacy.org/download/ which has blocks that seem more up to date. However it omits the gpgcheck tip. Worth mentioning proxy configuration for yum? declare -x http_proxy='http://yourproxy.host.name:yourproxyport/' Worth encouraging use of mirrors? e.g. [base] name=Red Hat Linux $releasever base baseurl=http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/download.fedoralegacy.org/legacy/redhat/$releasever/os/$basearch gpgcheck=1 [updates] name=Red Hat Linux $releasever updates baseurl=http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/download.fedoralegacy.org/legacy/redhat/$releasever/updates/$basearch gpgcheck=1 [legacy-utils] name=Fedora Legacy utilities for Red Hat Linux $releasever baseurl=http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/download.fedoralegacy.org/legacy/redhat/$releasever/legacy-utils/$basearch gpgcheck=1 5/ Annoying of the ac.uk mirror to insert that extra /legacy/, innit?
