[What has this to do with Fedora Legacy?]

You may need to upgrade the gtk2 2.2.1 and fontconfig 2.1 packages to meet
gimp's requirements. Rebuilding them from src.rpm may work, and whether
the resulting binary rpms will be compatible with the rest of Red Hat
Linux 9 remains to be seen.
