We're currently waiting on the package to stabilize in fedora core, then
changes will be merged and the package will be put back on the QA
chopping block.  

You can still use freshrpms, or your own compilation of apt, you'll just
have to set up the sources yourself.  

As far as helping, read through the bug, maybe chime in if you have some
strong opinions on some of the issues raised.. Most notably
- automatic kernel updates
- automatic installation of GPG keys to users' keyring in RH7.x
