I've got some time ago the same problem.
A possible fix is:
add "noacpi, acpi=off" to the kernel line in grub.
If you don't know how to edit the line in grub, when you chose the kernel to boot::
press 'e', write the things I've mentioned before,save the stuff and then hit 'b' to boot.
