If youre running KDE start the Kmix program (then you'll get the volume control in the system tray. click on the volume control and click on the 'Mixer' button, then set the volume levels for Master, Front, PCM and Headphone.


Then under Settings --> Configure Kmix uncheck the 'Restore volumes at login'
