@jstancek @joe.lawrence when talking to @bgoncalv for the testing aspect of
disabling selftests on non-up variants: we really want to have the selftests
built in all these variant pipelines (although they are all the same ignoring
the kmods), as the selftest rpms are then used during testing of these
variants

with this requirement, it depends a bit where the building of these kmods
happens: if in the separate native `build-tools` stage, we would need to pass
in the current variant somehow; if in the cross-compiled `build` stage, it
would need to deal with cross compilers but would also be sure to use the same
compiler as the kernel itself
