I would go further on that, I see little value in using variables. It's very
rare to switch compression algorithms over time. The only way I see it's
useful is if we want to support users switching compressors, but then you're
right here we may want to cover it fully like wrapping the compression level
argument into another variable. I'm acking the MR anyway as is though, as I'm
fine with either approach.
