Please, check new version. It maintains all the current functionality, it
always preserve the user selection, either from command line or from
Makefile.variables, and you still can set `DIST := .el10` when CentOs Stream
10 is forked, and it will just work.

I've needed to move the default value of DIST to Makefile, as I said, but I
don't see any problem to this approach.
