Hi,
from documentation to mark_driver_unmaintained
 * This function should be used when a driver's usage cannot be tied to a
 * specific hardware device.  For example, a network bonding driver or a
higher
 * level storage layer driver that is no longer maintained upstream.
based on that I think that it shouldn't be used in the e1000 driver.
