Nevertheless it afaics might be worth asking Greg or Larry if they might
be willing to include it as a stop-gap solution until rtl8xxxu is ready
to fill the gap, as many distros are shipping this driver, like your said.

>From quick googling it seems to be that ath6kl and wlags49_h25 were
added to the staging tree for similar reason. But details differ and
that was years ago, so yes, maybe they will shoot it down. But might be
worth a shot.
