And on a f21 box I could reproduce this:
    $ cp -al vanilla-3.19 vanilla-3.19-git7
    $ cd vanilla-3.19-git7/
    $ cat [...]/patch-3.19-git7.xz | unxz | patch -p1 -F1 -s
    symbolic link target '../../../../../arch/powerpc/lib/memcmp_64.S' is invalid
    $ rpm -q patch
    patch-2.7.3-1.fc21.i686

So you were right it's a patch-2.7.3 issue.
