how well will mkinitrd cope when modules it always loads
don't exist any more?  any nasty hardcoded bits there?

The biggest issue there will be that we've got a list of stuff that's supposed happen before scsi loads... but in reality, I don't think we care.

If you can build me a scratch kernel once we're done deciding what to demodularize, fixing mkinitrd afterwards shouldn't be a very difficult task.
