Thanks for the suggestion, Ed. Unfortunately it did not solve the issue, though.Deleting the .local/share/torbrowser directory and letting it install again also did not change anything.
Maybe it is something more general as I've also seen the wrongly displayed characters in at least one other program: Altair GraphQL Client when showing the save dialogue.
