When I had similar issues in the past, I ran krdc on the command line and the error message was helpful. In my case, there were problems with changed/untrusted certificates of the rdp server. 

My guess is that krdc still uses the old parameter style when calling
freerdp instead of the new one. This might not work any more with recent
freerdp versions.

I'm pretty sure krdc is using the freerdp library and not the command line.
