Off topic, I know, but that's incorrect. In fact, for all of my user
desktops, I configure the power button to simply log out all local
sessions. (I also disconnect the reset buttons.) If you tell systemd
not to handle the power button it passes control to acpid, and you can
tell acpid to run any executable you like.
PEBCAK - if you decide to shoot yourself in the foot, well...
default is a controlled shutdown and so a fucked up userland process
don't force you to do a hard power-off
