by 'Crash' I mean the system becomes completely unresponsive except for
the mouse. I can move the cursor but cannot click on anything, then a
few seconds later the laptop stops (not a shutdown, just blank screen
and then an immediate power off)
I do see several errors like this in /var/log/messages:
Mar 4 18:30:38 F25Host kwin_x11: QXcbConnection: XCB error: 9
(BadDrawable), sequence: 21490, resource id: 112959491, major code: 14
(GetGeometry), minor code: 0
Mar 4 18:30:51 F25Host plasmashell: QXcbConnection: XCB error: 2
(BadValue), sequence: 42695, resource id: 96468997, major code: 141
(Unknown), minor code: 3
Mar 4 18:34:28 F25Host akonadi_ical_resource: The X11 connection broke
(error 1). Did the X11 server die?
Not sure if this is related to the issue, I've uploaded the entire
/var/log/messages file (as a .txt file) here in case it helps:

Thanks again for any assistance

it.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions...
with your vague informations it's even not known what a "crash" for
you means - a real crash must not be triggered by userland software at
all, otherwise it's a kernel bug
but maybe just the grahpical display was frozen and so you could login
into a VT by press "CTRL+ALT+F3" and lokk into the system logs, lokk
at the output of "dmesg" and mich more important just restart the
display manager to avoid a unclean shutdown
even if that is not possible you mabye configure sshd proper and a ssh
client on your smartphone and do the same - i had enough freezes with
Fedora 14 on a at this time very recent hardware and regulary shutdown
it from the ssh session (restart display manager did not help but at
least it avoided a unclean poweroff)
