I am running on F25. And just like you I see the dark screen for some time, 
not too long here, but as soon as it goes the system is ready to work.

Looking in to system settings I see that the splash screen has been reverted 
to none when before it was F24.

Things are running smoothly here.

Better than that I noticed that on this configuration a laptop, with a full hd 
display, with an external connected display with the previous plasma versions 
the laptop was always blank. It was always necessary to restart plasma to get 
plasma working on the laptop display, where the panel is (a small detail who 
needs the panel). With plasma 5.8 this is finally sorted. Good. :-)
