Do you know anyone who is running LXQt on an nVidia T61?  
 
No...but IMO it is definitely worth the time to try out LXQt.  I will eliminate Plasma from
the equation and may work fine for your hardware.  It is extremely simple to try:

dnf groupinstall lxqt

Oops forgot:

LXQt uses Openbox currently as the default.  They will switch to KWin as default for wayland.
Its easy to switch now, if you wish.  It is done via:  
Desktop Settings -> Session Settings -> Basic Settings -> Window Manager
