… or get used to Krusader, where "New file" just creates an empty (0-byte)
file without adding any extension and by default opens it immediately in the
builtin text editor.
Krusader is just generally the better file manager for power users than
Dolphin, and Konqueror's file management mode has unfortunately become
little more than a shell around Dolphin.
