Turned out to be a problem with the strigi service.  I think I was
thrown off by the "hanging" System Services.  It would hang and then
come up with a dialog that asked if you wanted to terminate...which I
did.  But, it seems that if you let it go longer you would get the display.

Ended up copying the nepomukstrigirc file from a "working" user and a
few other things and it is now working.

Of course, the question now is....do I really need/want to use these
services......
