hello,

I am trying to add the facebook chat kopete using the xmpp methos but fail

I have tried adding the chat to pidgin using purple-facebookchat and
succeeded.

what is wrong with kopete? is there a way to use purple-facebookchat in
kopete?

It is working fine here on 6 different computers and a number of my friends have used kopete on facebook too.

The settings i have are in the basic settings tab your Jabber ID is username@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and in the Connection tab select Enable protocol encryption (SSL) and Allow plain-text password authentication.

One problem a friend met a while ago was that he hadn't set a username up on facebook (at least in the past you only needed an email address to sign up and setting a username was optional). You can set your username if you haven't already in Account Settings on facebook (second item down on the Settings tab). I once heard (possibly wrongly) that purple-facebookchat doesn't use the jabber interface so it accepts email addresses as well as usernames.
