The last comment is over a year old, however there is a small amount of mailing list activity (see http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/authentication). A cursory glance at it gives me the impression what people are talking about a complete rethink of what these apps actually do (the idea is to have a new Secrets Service that any desktop app can tap into).
