It would seem that something is not working in your setup. First the standard 
dumb questions :). Do you have an address book? Is Akonadi running? Is your 
address book listed in Akonadi management?

OK those out of the way. Slightly less dumb question. When you login to your 
account and / or startup kontact / kmail for the first time do you get a dialog 
box from Akonadi pop up? Does it tell you that it could not find resources? If 
so, Exit out of Kontact / Kmail and start it again. See if that helps.
