K.. Let me state that I agree that this a very unintuitive way of doing things
but... These are the steps I took to get a working address book.

1) Make a backup copy of my addressbook vcf file.

2) Go into System Settings -> Advanced -> Akonadi Configuration

3) Exit out of all Kontact apps

4) Delete all the address books (Addressbook, Personal Contacts, etc.)

5) Stop Akonadi

6) Start Akonadi

7) Start Kontact (Akonadi should start. If it doesn't you will need to restart
it from Akonadi Reconfiguration.

8) In Akonadi Reconfiguration Create a new Personal Contacts

9) Check to make sure it shows up in Kontact.

10) If your old addresses are still in Contacts then delete them.

12) From Contacts in Kontact, Select the Personal Contacts

13) Click on file and import the old vcf from the original Addressobok.

Hopefully, things will be working just fine.

Like I said this is a horrible way to go about configuring ones PIM. I really
do not understand the need to configure a client application by configuring a
server. Seems well.... I really don't have the words.
