Crashing X-server after last night f12 upgrade kde-unstable

I had two problems:

1. X crashing caused by having "nomodeset" as a kernel parameter. It was 
being setup by default so no idea why I now have to disable/remove it 
from grub.conf. Not sure what it does. Main difference I see is that on 
boot, with it removed I see a "teardrop" or "meatball" or something that 
eventually evolves into the fedora "f" inside it. With nomodeset 
present, I see multiple overlapping bars at the bottom of the screen 
that grow from left to right during boot.

2. With "nomodeset" removed, X runs but could only run gnome. KDE was 
just the mouse cursor on a black screen. This is apparently fixed by the 
soprano update today as mentioned in a later thread and bugzilla report.

Hopefully, thing will keep running OK. Before this problem, was seeing 
lot of good stuff *working right* in KDE 4.4
