I had to do it It from the command line as kpackagekit didn't show any updates available even after a refresh. Furthermore pressing "refresh" in kpackagekit now results in a crash and also brings down kded4. Kded4 has to be manually restarted to bring back the functionality on the desktop. This is with only "stable" updates and NO "testing" installed. Jan Simonson
