I looked (really quickly) to this issue some time ago but unfortunately I didn't have time so I postponed it. I tried it with GDM but it looked exactly the same as KDM, probably something was wrong (but KMS was working). Mandriva is using Plymouth, Kubuntu is not going to use Plymouth. Maybe in some spare time I'll take a look as I'm trying to support most of Fedora stuff in KDE. And there's still lot of work on functionality, so looks is on second way. (But still it will gain some look improvements as Qt GUI is better, isn't it?).
