I've got it now, Rex.  It suddenly dawned on me - I've seen this before.  NM 
is still connected to the router, but has lost the encrypted connection.  I 
couldn't get any website at all.  I've seen it a few times.  I have to reboot 
to get a connection again.  I still have the problem of the passphrase not 
being accepted once this happens.
