I remember that I had this issue awhile back ago also. pulse audio is 
installed. And logged out and back in no joy no matter what backend I use or 
what device is selected. It could be an alsa issue with the sound card 
installed on my mother board. Its a good thing that I'm relying on KDE apps 
and the xine backend works beautifully.

I think for the the time being this has been enough for now. I've now got to 
start complaining to OpenOffice.org. Hmmph. After all this time and so much 
development. MailMerge to an email, while it seems that its available, is 
still not easy to use. The old StarOffice regarding this feature was much 
easier.

But I digress.
