An LDAP backend sounds appealing as a handful of others have mentioned.
At the same time though it sounds like a lot of the team's experience
leans towards the SQL end of things. Because of that I tend towards the
SQL side. I also think Toshio brings up several good points in his email.
But... before we get too far ahead of ourselves, I think much like the
backup discussion we will be doing ourselves a favor to outline the
requirements of Account System updates. What makes it to the
requirements list might have some bearing on which backend makes the
most sense.
I think others on the list are probably more in tune with what the
requirements are. I think we could also learn a lot from the common
complaints about the current system. Between those two lists we should
be able to come up with a good plan (including more info to help with
the SQL versus LDAP backend).
