#15: FEL with source + build packages --------------------------+------------------------------------------------- Reporter: shakthimaan | Owner: chitlesh Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: major | Milestone: Fedora 11 'Leonidas' Component: FEL | Version: devel Resolution: | Keywords: Source --------------------------+------------------------------------------------- Comment (by chitlesh): Hello shakti, for #1: FEL can be used without internet. Inclusion of Source packages will also mean to include all the -devel dependencies used to build each SRPM. This might be 2/3 times the size of the current livedvd. for #2: We have to know where we stand. Is our prime objective - (1) to spend more time with software or - (2) to provide EDA solutions ? for (1), source code distribution is understandable, but this is not electronics. for (2), each FEL app already contains it own documentation or its documentation comes with a separate -doc package. As for the driver support, the fedora-base kickstart file already entails many drivers, and if one is missing please file a bug so that it can be fixed. We know that download speed in certain countries is slow thereby it is also another reason why we must limit the total size of the dvd so as not to penalize the majority. Try rpm -qld pcb for #3, FEL is already a standalone solution for electronics. To design electronics there is no need for source code. But the source code is available for anyone to download if he/she wants with: yumdownloader --source pcb And, to my knowledge, anaconda does not support the inclusion of the SRPMs in the livecd. I see no reason why the source code and build packages should be entailed into the livedvd, in order to make FEL useful for education, though education is not the only userbase we are targeting. The reason why FEL exists is because of the lack of packaged opensource EDA tools in the community. Thus it is meant to shield the user from building the eda tools for scratch and jump straight to the electronic design and simulation. Providing source packages within the live media is the other way round. -- Ticket URL: <https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-electronic-lab/ticket/15#comment:1> Fedora Electronic Lab <https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-electronic-lab> Design, Simulate and Program electronics. _______________________________________________ Fedora-electronic-lab-list mailing list Fedora-electronic-lab-list@xxxxxxxxxx https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-electronic-lab-list
