389-ds please review: alpha CLI tools

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hello!

Today is an exciting day where I get to ask everyone for their feedback
on our new command line tools. The design document related to "why" is
found here:

http://port389.org/docs/389ds/design/dsadm-dsconf.html

These are very new, and have been tested by the team and some others
for some time. This is a departure from our classic perl scripts into a
well integrated set of complete cli management tools for 389 Directory
Server.

All tools are written in python, and I would really appreciate feedback
on these and their ease of use. They are not 100% able to manage the
server yet (many plugins are still missing) however, the core framework
is in place, and many common tasks are possible.

These can be used on el7/f27 by enabling the copr repo:

https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/firstyear/ds/

For f27 this is:

dnf copr enable firstyear/ds
dnf install 389-ds-base

Then you can follow the steps here:

http://port389.org/docs/389ds/design/dsadm-dsconf.html#example-usage

As well, exploration of the tools would be great (they have extensive
help guides with --help). If you find there are tasks you *want* to be
able to achieve, let me know of these also.

Thank you and looking forward to your feedback.

WARNING: This package is a pre-release version of 389 Directory Server,
and should not be used for production, only for the purposes of testing
and evaluation.
