I'll do and did add comments for this ticket, but I didn't get the
comments in the ticket as I was not on the cc list, so both ways have
their drawbacks.

and then both increment count. the increment is atomic, but the
assignment could be done to the wrong index.

from the array there couls be cases where one is added from the time
