This appears to be a known bug in the upstream perl-Tk wrt XIM (I believe
perl-Tk's r12589 is supposedly a fix for it).

An easy temporary work around is to disable XIM by unset'ing or clearing
XMODIFIERS:

$ XMODIFIERS='' perl -MTk -we 'my $top = MainWindow->new->getOpenFile(-title =>
"GetFile");'
